Ames 4th of July Festivities

If you’re around the Ames area for the 4th of July, you’re in luck – there’s plenty going on around the community that’s great for residents of all ages.

If you’re a runner, be sure to check out the Friendship Ark Homes annual holiday road race. The race begins at 8 a.m. at Ada Hayden Park and offers distances of 4k of 4-mile race around the lake. Proceeds will go to Friendship Ark Homes. You can get more details here.

The holiday festivities will kick off with a pancake breakfast at 10 a.m. that’s free to the public. It runs until 12 noon and takes place at the entrance of the City Hall at 515 Clark Avenue.

The annual 4th of July parade begins at 1 p.m. and runs through the downtown area. There will also be inflatable rides, food, and games right after the parade, as well as several musical events at the Durham Bandshell. At dusk, the Ames Jaycees will put on a fireworks show.

Note: For those who make use of CyRide, they’ll run a normal schedule on Sunday, July 4th and a Saturday schedule on the 5th.
